Housekeeping (1980)

Housekeeping is one of the greatest books I have ever read, and reading it alongside Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye was fundamental to my ability in close reading. Since reading it, I have looked at books, movies, video games, and all media in a much different and more intense way. The difference between my thoughts on Housekeeping and my indulgent analyses of Monsters Inc. and Super Metroid is that Marilynne Robinson actually intended for all of this to be uncovered and interpreted. My fascination with this text comes primarily from its connection with nature and how well-used its characters are in explaining Robinson's intellectual ideologies, which connect its themes, its characters, and our present world together in a way that still feels fantastic thanks to its Biblical elements.
